ALASKA CRUISE

The Last Frontier

What to expect on an Alaska cruise

Alaska cruising is filled with wild adventures, spectacular scenery, and abundant wildlife.  Most cruises will travel the Inside Passage making stops at ports like Juneau, Ketchikan, and Skagway along with at least one day of scenic cruising to a glacier.  You will enjoy the spectacular mountain vistas from the deck, or maybe your private verandah, while keeping an eye out for whales, bald eagles, dolphins, and other wildlife.
While in port, there are many excursions that range from relaxing to adventurous.  In  Juneau, you can take a helicopter on to Mendenhall Glacier to go on a hike!  For a more relaxing excursion take take the White Pass Summit train in Skagway.  Of course, there is always the Lumberjack show in Ketchikan.

Types of cruises

Alaska cruises have a few different options.

  • Northbound/Southbound - Northbound cruises typically start from Seattle or Vancouver and end in one of the ports for Anchorage.  Southbound is similar, but the opposite direction.  These cruises offer pre and post tours into the interior of Alaska for extra time in places like Denali National Park and the Kenai Peninsula.

  • Roundtrip cruises will start and finish in either Seattle or Vancouver.  These cruises typically do not sail up into the interior (Anchorage) of Alaska.

  • Some Transpacific sailings going from North America to Asia also have stops in Alaska

Alaska Cruise season

Alaska cruising season runs from May until September.
